Chat room safety

  • Be careful. People aren't always who they say they are. It's easy to create a false persona.
  • Safeguard your personal information. People only know what you tell them. Avoid giving out information like your name, age, picture, phone number, or address. Even if you only occasionally reveal private details, a determined user can assemble these pieces into a complete profile.
  • Use the block feature. Don't worry about tactfulness -- if you feel threatened by someone, immediately block the user. Pull down the Commands menu and select Ignore List.
  • Let us know. Users with the "@" sign before their names are room operators. Feel free to send them a private message if you have any concerns. If you don't receive a satisfactory response, let liveHarmony know.
  • Above all, use common sense. Remember, it's just chat.

We encourage you to learn more about chat safety by visiting ChatDanger and GetNetWise. These tips are partially based on their recommendations.
